Very very artistic

I bought this book after borrowing it from the local library. They had many copies. I wanted it in my personal reference collection. This is a very unique book. It is written in a conversational style using hip hop characters. The book is entertaining and an easy read. It covers quickly the basis of drawing but mostly focus in on the special techniques you would perform to create hip hop characters. I love the chapters concentrating on gear, movement, posture and characterization. You will enjoy reading the book as well as be amazed at the work and if you follow the easy directions you will be able to draw hip hop. This is the only book I have found on this topic that is on point. I highly recommend it for beginners as well as advance artist. Great Job!

Nice Style for comics...

This was a nice book, not too different from any other art book but the Hip Hip style seems to be a lot cleaner and easier. My style is very much traditional and more Image Comics, but I do like this and will probably start experimenting with it. I'm really tired of the manga stuff, but this style looks really nice.

Also this book was very easy to follow, but I think what makes it stand out more is its presentation. It teaches drawing in a narrative style which was very new to me. I enjoyed the art itself and would like to work with it a little more.

Fisher listened closely and the result is a book of vivid, rhythmic, heartfelt poems that address a violent time with honesty, levity, and compassion. About the Author
Diane Gilliam'’s family was part of the Appalachian outmigration from Mingo County, West Virginia, and Johnson County, Kentucky. Gilliam has a PhD in Romance Languages and Literature from Ohio State University and an MFA from the Warren Wilson Program for Writers. Her first book, One of Everything, was published by Cleveland State University Poetry Center in 2003, and her chapbook, Recipe for Blackberry Cake, was published by Kent State University Press in 1999.

Janet Rice Davis

was born and raised in Houston, Texas, where music has always been an integral part of her family life. Although Janet's formal musical training was primarily in the classical field, she was fascinated with the stringed instruments, particularly those involved with folk and bluegrass music. In college she played the guitar and sang as a folk and blues musician in many of the Austin clubs, learning from such greats as Lightning Hopkins, Janis Joplin, and other well-known musicians, who played the same clubs. Today, Janet is primarily known as a bluegrass and five-string banjo specialist.

Great treatment of a specialty topic

Great book. Typical clear Janet Davis writing and tabs. Has many exercises. Good section with tab for melody followed by tab for back-up. Tape record one and play the other against it!

okay for intermediates

I am an intermediate banjo player,I used this book when I had about 8 songs under my belt and found I needed to play backup. It is decent, gets the job done, has a video with it that is decent too. My favorite backup banjo ( this is ONLY for backup) instructional material is from Accutab and is a dvd called ( I cant remember the exact name) something like 3rd position backup or up the neck backup. Both are similiar, they show an early intermediate player who may know from 4-15 songs how to start playing backup. Banjo players are well known for playing loud obnoxious backup and hopefully these will help reverse that trend(!) The book/dvd is good but not excellent, make sure to get the dvd with it!

I got this book when I first began playing the banjo back in the late 1970s. Its even better now because of the DVD that accompanies it. Not like the old vinyl record or Cassette tapes of yesteryear. great tool. Janet Davis is fabulous
