Great Book

This is a great book. I don't have one personally yet, but I borrowed one my friend's, and it's awesome. It has the piano part with the sax part above it and the pull out sax section just like it says, with only the sax part. Everything is transcibed pretty well. It doesn't have the solos that Dave plays himself, but some of them can be found in "The Best of Dave Koz" book which has everything transcibed in it. Or you can interpret the solo sections your own way with the chords that are written on top. This book is great if you are looking to play with a rhythm section, by yourself, or you can play along with Dave on his CD. If you're trying to sound a little bit more like Dave, this book (and others too) will help you get there. Just make sure you have enough time to order it as it may take a while to actually get it in your hands. Have fun playing!

Great addition to sheet music collection

This book has both the piano sheet music, and a pull out for the saxophone. It is great, a simplistic rendition of what Dave plays in his songs, and it gives the player a great place to start to even create his or her own version of Dave's songs from the Dance CD.

About the Author
Magnus Magnusson is an Icelander who has been resident in Scotland for most of his life, and is well-known for his presentation of the BBC's Mastermind. He is also chairman of the Scottish National Heritage. He studied English and Old Icelandic at Oxford University.

Hermann Palsson studied Icelandic at the University of Iceland and Celtic at University College, Dublin. Formerly Professor of Icelandic at the University of Edinburgh and General Editor of the New Saga Library, he has written many books on the history and literature of medieval Iceland. He died in 2003.

Excellent new edition

This is the second edition of The Vinland Sagas that I've purchased from the Penguin Classics series. The first, published a few decades ago, was adequate, but this new edition is well worth having an extra copy around. These translations, by Keneva Kunz, are fast-paced, clear, and easy to read.

The two sagas included here are The Saga of the Greenlanders and The Saga of Eirik the Red. Both tell of the Norse discovery of and attempts (there were more than one) to settle in North America. They differ in focus and emphasis, but tell essentially the same stories. First, Eirik the Red settled himself in Greenland. Then, when Norse sailors were blown off course and sighted more land even farther west, Eirik's son Leif decided to check it out for himself. Leif, later known as "the Lucky" after rescuing wrecked sailors, discovered a land where wild grapes and "self-sown wheat" grew and named it Vinland. He and others explored up and down the coast of Canada and New England, perhaps as far south as Manhattan. They settled in several places all along the coast and even traded with the natives. Then things turned sour.

The Vikings, many are shocked to learn, actually fought wars with the Indians. Of course, the Norse settlers won handily in every engagement, but the fighting was enough to convince them that the sheer numbers of the natives would eventually wear them down, and after several years of exploration, settlement, and farming, they packed up and returned to Iceland and Greenland. But Vinland was never forgotten.

The book is short, and the sagas even shorter--the two combined take up only 48 pages in this edition. But the book is rounded out with an informative--if sometimes dry--introduction and notes by Gisli Sigurdsson. Sigurdsson mentions several instances from later records in which people were said to have sailed to Vinland, including a man cutting lumber who returned from his trip and a bishop who did not. Also included are illustrations and diagrams of Icelandic farms and Norse ships that have been lifted from the Sagas of Icelanders collection.

Perhaps the most helpful appendix in the book is the map section. There are six pages of maps and a two-page table setting out scholars' guesses on the locations of places in the sagas. For example, is Vinland actually Newfoundland? Or perhaps Prince Edward Island? The maps themselves are labeled according to Sigurdsson's suggestions, which certainly helps while reading the sagas.

But even if you aren't going to look at the introduction or back matter, the sagas themselves are well worth reading. And of course, if you are interested in learning more about Leif the Lucky and the New World's first European settlers, this edition of the Vinland Sagas, with its strong translation and good supplementary material, is the one to have.

Gisli Sigurdsson provides an informative introduction to The Saga of the Greenlanders & Eirik the Red's Saga, and Keneva Kunz provides an accessible translation of the sagas. There are useful appendices showing diagrams of the likely exploration routes, family trees, ships, and farms the Vikings associated with these sagas would have used.

It was fun to finally read these sagas. I always knew that "Leif Landed First" -- that Scandinavians were the first to discover North America and interact with the indigenous people of North America back in 1000 A.D. However, actually reading the sagas really drives home just how comfortable the Vikings must have been with sea travel. It was nothing for them to constantly move about year to year from Norway to Iceland to Ireland to Greenland to Vinland etc., and various combinations thereof. I am duly impressed.

Country Western Fans Will Love This!

I listen to quite a few audio books while traveling, but needed something to share with my Dad on a recent road trip. Since he is an avid viewer of cowboy movies, I hoped we could both enjoy this collection.

I'll have to say that we did enjoy it. For me, having a number of performers and sound effects was a bit disconcerting at first. I'm used to listening to a book with a single performer. But once I got used to the format, I'll have to say that it added to the experience. And of course, how can you not like listening to the timbre of voices like Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash!

So if you're a cowboy fan, and you must be if you're looking at Louis L'Amour books, I think you'll enjoy this collection.

Brought Back Memories

Immense fun listening to all of the stars voices on these discs. Read a lot of Louis L'Amour books as a kid and was enthralled listening to them as we drove on trip back east earlier this year. Would highly recommend to any fan of Louis L'Amour.

About the Author
James A. Heintz currently guides today's students as Professor and Director of Accounting and Information Systems in the School of Business at the University of Kansas, where he has taught for 11 years. Prior to joining University of Kansas, he was the Accounting Department Head at the University of Connecticut for eight years. He also served as Assistant, Associate and Full Professor for 20 years at Indiana University. Professor Heintz earned his doctorate from Washington University in St Louis and is a CPA. He was a Price Waterhouse Faculty Fellow at Indiana, an Arthur Andersen Faculty Fellow at Connecticut, and is currently the Deloitte & Touche Faculty Fellow at Kansas. Professor Heintz has won numerous school and university teaching awards, including three teaching awards from the Doctoral Student Association. He has served in various capacities on 24 doctoral dissertation committees. Heintz has published numerous articles in accounting and business journals, including THE ACCOUNTING REVIEW; AUDITING: A JOURNAL OF PRACTICE AND THEORY; ACCOUNTING AND BUSINESS RESEARCH; JOURNAL OF BUSINESS FINANCE AND ACCOUNTING; and INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF ACCOUNTING EDUCATION AND RESEARCH. He served on the editorial board of AUDITING: A JOURNAL OF PRACTICE AND THEORY for seven years. Professor Heintz has served on various committees of the AAA and the FSA, and as president of the Accounting Programs Leadership Group of the AAA. He has participated in external reviews of accounting programs at 12 major universities.

Dr. Robert Parry is Professor Emeritus of Accounting at Indiana University's Kelley School of Business in Bloomington, Indiana. An accomplished teacher, Professor Parry has taught accounting at virtually all levels. While earning his MBA, he taught accounting at Bishop Klonowski High School in Pennsylvania. While earning his Ph.D., he taught introductory financial and managerial accounting at Northampton County Community College and Lehigh University. At Indiana, he taught in the undergraduate, MBA, Masters Ph. D. programs. In addition, he has taught accounting in the Consortium of Universities for International Studies in Asolo, Italy. During his 35 years at Indiana University, he won or was nominated for 27 teaching excellence awards, including recognition twice by Business Week as one of the country's Outstanding MBA Faculty. In addition, he was awarded the Indiana University Distinguished Service Award for planning and deploying an integrated MBA Core Program. He also received the Kelley School of Business Innovative Teaching Award for designing and implementing the Master of Science in Accounting Program curriculum. Dr. Parry has conducted research in public finance, governmental accounting, and accounting education. His work has been published in many journals, including Public Finance Quarterly, Public Budgeting and Financial Management, Financial Analysts Journal, Accounting Horizons, Management Accounting, Research in Accounting Regulation, Research in Governmental and Non-Profit Accounting, Issues in Accounting Education, and Journal of Accounting Education. Dr. Parry was lead author on the Service Efforts and Accomplishments research report published by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board. He also served on many committees of the American Accounting Association, including President of the Government and Nonprofit Accounting Section.

and for the price I paid it is a great book. It came as described

I bought this so I didn't have to pay the college bookstore's outrageous price, and for the price I paid it is a great book. It came as described. It has some wear on the outside of the book (on the corners and the spine), but that is normal for used books. It also has highlighting in it, but that is fine with me because I was going to highlight in it anyway. So I gave this 5 stars because it was as described and arrived on time.

This is a great book for new document controllers.
Although some conclusions are not my sollutions, and some issues are handled only briefly, this still makes it worth the money.

A thoughtful all-rounder on Document Control from an industry professional

The author spotted a gap in the literature on Document Control and was very kind to share his professional experience from a "document hungry" multinational company in order to fill it. This book offers great insight into the many aspects of the world of Document Control (document life cycle, governance, quality assurance, procedures etc.) and is a good reference for all those who would like to have a concise handbook in one place rather than spending hours in browsing through scattered list of internet articles that cover specific segments in detail. Although a book on document control can be considered dry material, his lean and humorous style (“an antelope running in the plains of Africa can be considered a document”) will make sure that you will easily find your way through it.

Since ours is an age of heightened public interest in auditing the actual realisation of such standards and commitment, the first major focus of this book is a critical account of international standards aimed at protection of minorities. To that end, it concentrates on four key dimensions. First, it addresses the issue on identification of minorities as understood by international law. Second, it outlines a brief history on development of international law towards a better protection of minorities. Third, it gives an overview of international instruments and mechanisms on minorities. Finally, it analyses the rights of minorities under international standards. All these dimensions point to the fact that international minority rights lag behind the development of other branches of rights. The second major focus of this book is to relate international standards on minority protection to South Asian regimes. Concentrating on India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Maldives, and Afghanistan, an endeavor is made to examine the state of minorities and their protection under the domestic regimes. It emerges that the normative commitments of these states are less or more compatible with international standards. Nevertheless, majority-minority syndrome persistently remains as one of the causes behind multidimensional deprivation and victimization of South Asian minorities. The present book also assesses the extent to which regional cooperation in South Asia has so far contributed to extending protection to minorities. This ends with an argument that SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) has potentials to play far greater role in this regard.

About the Author
Borhan Uddin Khan is currently a Professor in the Department of Law, University of Dhaka, and a former Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. After obtaining LL.B. (Hons.) and LL.M. from the same University, Prof. Khan in 1990 did LL.M. in Public International Law from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), and Ph.D. in 1995 from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. His areas of expertise include: International Human Rights Law, International Humanitarian Law, Laws of Armed Conflict and Use of Force. He has to his credit, several books and research papers published in reputed Journals. Muhammad Mahbubur Rahman is an Assistant Professor, Department of Law, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. He is currently enrolled, under the British Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan, as a post-graduate research student in the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, United Kingdom. He has to his credit, several books and research papers published in reputed Journals.

About the Author
MICHAEL ERIC DYSON is one of America’s premier public intellectuals. He occupies the distinguished position of University Professor of Sociology at Georgetown University, is a contributing opinion writer for the New York Times, and is a contributing editor of The New Republic and ESPN’s The Undefeated. Ebony magazine named him one of the 100 Most Influential African Americans and one of the 150 most powerful blacks in the nation.

Unsettling, unnerving. a message we all need to hear...

What does it mean to be black in America? Dyson answers this question in dramatic fashion. Using the clever setup of a sermon, complete with all the parts of a good Baptist message, he relentlessly lays out the harsh reality of being black in this country.

This is a hard book to read, at least if you are white. It made me realize how little I know of the black experience, even though I thought I had a fair amount of knowledge. It made me want to argue with the author on several points, only to find as I read more, I was wrong. I felt, at first, Dyson was too angry in his writing, only to come to realize justifiably so.

At times the message seems repetitious, but then maybe it needs to be for the reader to fully grasp the severity of it. There is a quote from Stephen King on the cover that says, "If you're white, Dyson tells you what you need to know - what this white man needed to know at least." I would add my name to that list.

As I read, I kept asking myself, "Okay, if this is the problem, what am I supposed to do about it?" Dyson answers that question in the section labeled Benediction. Giving the reader concrete steps any of us can follow, which takes this from being just a rant on white privilege to a call to erase the divide between black and white.

What does it mean to be black in America? The question alone makes this a must read.

A Great Sermon!

Everyone in America should read this! We all need it, from the outwardly racist to those who deny being racist, while viewing people of color as less than the perceived white standard. Unfortunately, many have adopted the white standard as the right standard that everyone else is measured and judged by. This is not just a white problem, but a cause for much low self- esteem and lack of self-definition within the black community.
The time has come for all of us to respect and love each other -to look at the content of our character, not the color of our skin as Martin Luther King, Jr. hoped for in America!

Powerful, challenging, and inspiring. An essential read

This is a book that I challenge all my white friends to read, no matter where you stand on the spectrum of confronting white privilege and systemic racism. Michael Eric Dyson delivers a powerful, engaging, personal, informational, inspiring sermon that’s essential at this moment in time when racial division is especially high.

I urge you to read with an open heart and mind, to set aside your discomfort and listen to Dyson’s plea for white Americans to reckon with the harsh truths of racism.

Dyson is an ordained minister, so what better way to present this than as a sermon. He divides it into multiple sections: in “Hymns of Praise,” he cleverly shares hymns in the form of rap lyrics; in “Scripture Reading,” he quotes Martin Luther King Jr.; in the main sermon, he addresses whiteness specifically (including white innocence, white fragility, and white privilege) and then segues into a section about what it’s like to be black in America. Following that is “Benediction,” one of my favorite parts: in it he offers practical suggestions for what white people can do to make things better.

The whole thing is incredibly current and topical, with commentary on Black Lives Matter, the recent election and Donald Trump’s rise to power.

For white people who seek to understand more about racism and white privilege in America (and really, that should be all of us), this is the book to read. It was literally written for us.
