Under the traditional plan of studying trigonometry, college algebra, analytic geometry, and calculus separately, a student can form no conception of the character and possibilities of modern mathematics, nor of the relations of its several branches as parts of a unified whole, until he has taken several successive courses. Nor can he, early enough, get the elementary working knowledge of mathematical analysis, including integral calculus, which is rapidly becoming indispensable for students of the natural and social sciences. Moreover, he must deal with complicated technique in each introductory course; and must study many topics apart from their uses in other subjects, thus missing their full significance and gaining little facility in drawing upon one subject for help in another.

To avoid these disadvantages of the separate-subject plan the unified course presented here has been evolved. This enables even those students who can take only one semesters work to get some idea of differential and integral calculus, trigonometry, and logarithms. And specialist students, as experience has shown; acquire an excellent command of mathematical tools by first getting a birds-eye view of the field, and then proceeding to perfect their technique.

A regular course in calculus, following this, can proceed more rapidly than usual, include more advanced topics, and give a fine grasp: the principles and processes have become an old story. And the regular course in analytic geometry can be devoted to a genuine study of the geometrical properties of loci, since most of the type equations, basic formulas, and calculus methods are already familiar.

A great math book
By travel light and smiling
There has been an ongoing debate about what Math is. Without going into a lot of detail, the world is unevenly\ divided into camps which argue that math is a purely abstract subject, and those who disagree. Loxley guides you into the topics of advanced math-- calculus is the first destination on his trek. You get problems regarding things that you would encounter in real life, which makes it much easier to envision the math process than dealing with it on a purely abstract basis. I am fortunate enough to own several editions of this work. The answers to the problems are in a separate pamphlet for the editions of the '20's and 30's, and are specific to each work. If you are going to buy the book, buy the reprint offered on Amazon, and probably the reprint of the answer key. Otherwise, you may not get the answer keys.

Incomprehensible

I tried to find specific conditions in the book - and the procedures to follow for treating them. I couldn't even figure out the procedures to follow when reading them - the writing just isn't very clear.

If there is any organization to this book, I couldn't detect it. The author is very enthusiastic about the material and gives lots of her experiences with her patients. That's nice, but judicious editing, better organization and clarity is what this book needs.

Ok book but he rambles through topic to topic

The book is not bad but it's not that great either. Think of it as an idea book in which you see him mention something and then research it futher. The rambling just becomes too much as you move along to the point where it becomes annoying to read. The tone the author uses is very nonchalant and he doesn't really explain anything. Ideas are just thrown out.

For me, the beginning of the book was best because it lays out some important basics about money and wealth building.

If anything, it would be best to look through the book and read on specific topics of interest to you.

I'm already working on it!

I found this to be a fascinating and most helpful book. It was so motivating I'm already working on three new streams of income, and about to start a fourth. Forget net worth! Cash flow is much more important, particularly if you're retired. Only one slight criticism of the book. It's a bit dated, but those few parts make little difference to its overall value. If you're currently struggling with how you're going to survive after you retire, try Allen's approach. It will open your eyes.

Excellent Book

I have had several Bible dictionaries and concordances before, but this one is my favorite.
It has many more words than some others do,and it is very clearly written so you understand what you are reading,
It's not only a good dictionary and concordance, but it's also reasonably priced(which is a big plus for me.)

Was slightly disappointed in that several terms I wanted to know and understand were not in the Bible Dictionary. For example, Unim, Thurim, and shekel are words not there that I could find. I know where to find them in the Bible and have a Strong's Concordance if I needed the references. I wondered one Sunday when an owner gave talents to his workers. I wanted to now how much that was, but the nearest I could determine was about $1700 and I'm not sure about that.
