This is a superb book to get started with react native. The authors clearly know how to teach this subject because the material flows very naturally. They slowly introduce the reader to various concepts and features so that you never feel confused or overwhelmed. Book is clear and concise and follows the format of an interactive lecture. Its Not a recipe book or reference book, but this makes it a better place to start. Dont have to look back and fourth to different blogs and documentation. It also has first chapter on Introduction to react - which was essential specially for some one like me having no idea about so many new things that are unique to react world.

There is no Cryptozoological Society of London, nor are there (as far as science knows) unicorns, kobolds, sphinxes, werewolves, batlike Japanese demons or man-eating horses, which the society purports to study. Since there isn't, and aren't, Levy and his band of photographers, artists and library researchers have produced a profusely illustrated coffee-table hoax, one that doubles as a multicultural reference book about mythical creatures. Levy and friends' achievement amounts to great fun, full of documents, detailed sketches and inventive reports of legendary fauna. Take, for example, the basilisk (Ophidiogallus basiliscus), whose mere glance kills all animals except weasels: "Everyone who observed the basilisk perished, so its appearance has always been in dispute." Men wearing suits made of mirrors freed Europe of the beasts in the 16th century, we're told, and its present-day range is confined to the Near East and Africa. Reproduced field notes show how the society teamed up with the "Balkan Werewolf Committee" to find Lyc-V, the HIV-like retrovirus that causes lycanthropy; a two-page article from Science Today explains how both HIV and Lyc-V work. The authors devote a few pages to amazing, but actual, animals, such as the giant squid, treating them just as they treat leprechauns, and many more pages to arguably more legitimate cryptozoological quarry, such as Bigfoot and living dinosaurs. Present and future zoology buffs may learn plenty of real science from the farfetched essays: folklore fans will learn even more. The volume's appeal may well prove wider still: think of this as the illustrated text from Harry Potter's biology class. (Jan.)

Smoky book

I lke the book, but I didn't like the condition of the book when I got it. It smells of cigarette smoke really bad and it is pretty beat up. I understand that I was buying it used though, but the cigarette smoke is a bit much.

Buyer Beware

This is a handsomely published book, with thick glossy paper and numerous pictures and illustrations. However, if you get it thinking it is going to be a serious or archival study of cryptozoology, you will be disappointed. Its greater emphasis is on purely mythological creatures like mermaids, elves, the sphinx, unicorns, gorgons and other creatures of fantasy, only it purports to pass them all off as not only actual living creatures, but as still surviving in remote pockets of the world. The volume does so with a straight face, and purported eyewitness accounts. If you are fascinated by accounts of creatures that "might be", like bigfoot, lake monsters, mothman, or dinosaur survivors, then stay away from this book, which is basically a treatise on fantasy creatures prepared for a junior high audience with liberal dashes of pseudo-science thrown in for good measure. Again, its copious illustrations and colorful format are its best feature. More serious students of mysterious creatures would be better served by The Unexplained, by Dr. Karl P. Shuker, an equally well-illustrated book that is dedicated to more probable instances of cryptozoology.

If you are a dyed-in-the-wool cryptozoologist then it is best to leave this book on the shelf. This is more of a New Age encyclopedia of fanciful creatures and reports that sound like they belong in a fairy tale. The illustrations are quite impressive but the info is not scientifically sound. You are better off with Costello's "The Magic Zoo" or Ley's "Exotic Zoology". If you are into Mythology then this book is definitely for you.

Carlo Favero is currently Associate Professor of Econometrics at the Bocconi University of Milan. Formerly at the University of Ancona, he is Resident Fellow of the Innocenzo Gasparini Institute for Economic Research and a Fellow of the Centre for Economic Policy Research.

Nice approach, not so nice delivery

First, let me praise Favero's effort. He is absolutely right in his approach, i.e, in emphasizing the comparison of the most important "schools" of macroeconometrics. In general, what you have is a textbook about the Cowles Comissionn approach, another about the LSE approach, another about recursive methods and callibration and etc. As many people just read one or two books about macroeconometrics at grad school, it's obvious that very few know about the diversity of techniques available in the field.
Favero, correctly, points out that rather than trying to obscure the differences within the profession, macroeconometricians should expose them. This choice involves practical problems, though. It's obvious, for example, that the book has to cover a lot of ground. The author, however, opted for writting a relatively thin book. Indeed, the book is almost like the collected notes of a grad student in an advanced course (especially because at many points the presentation is very similar to Greene's). It may be (and I think it is) very informative if you already know the stuff (some illustrative E-views programes throughout the book were especially interesting to me), but you won't learn from it. The huge amount of typos in this first edition (what happened to Oxford University Press quality control?) doesn't help it either.
So, the book doesn't work as a textbook (given its incredibly brief presentation of important topics), but is a nice collection of notes - with a correct approach - that will be very useful for the professional macroeconomist.

An erroneous expression on page 63

There is a mistake on page 63, (before equation 2.24): It says: Subtract (A1-I)yt-2 from both sides. This is clearly wrong. The correct phrase should be: Add and subtract in the r.h.s. of (2.23) (A1-I)yt-2, and get equation (2.24), etc.

In my humble opinion, this is not really a textbook. You must first know econometrics, and if you really know it, then you verify your knowledge by this text. If this is the case, then the book helps you see modern approaches in macroeconometrics. If you want to start now learning applied macroeconometrics, Enders or Patterson explain more clearly and analytically.
