Just bought the book after reading EarthClinic for a few years

The book is published by EarthClinic, a great site for all health issues. You have to willing to sit there and READ, sometimes for hours, to find what you may need to know. I have studied nutrition for many years after a family member became quite ill and allopathic medicine was unable to help. After years of being healthier I sort of fell off the wagon, was under much stress with moving, remodeling, retiring, then new job . . a recipe for health problems to come up :-) And my usual juicing, eat better regimen didn't take care of the problems. I realized (symptoms for years, just got worse) that I have a serious candida problem. I tried many regimens, and this time nothing was "working." I started reading about turpentine, borax, etc. on EarthClinic, but it was hard to get a handle on ideas (as one Amazon reviewer said, "drink turpentine???") that I was unfamiliar with. I read, and read, and read some more, and started seeing these ideas on other websites (Dr. J. Daniels for one). When I read the mechanism (dissolves the biofilm and chitin skeleton) I thought, of COURSE, this is a great solution. So. . for clarification I bought the book, and read it quickly. I have read many candida books over the years, and Bill Thompson's book is easy to understand, he explains all aspects of the protocol very well. Details every supplement, why to use it, possible alternatives. He explains his own personal history, and mentions that he sells nothing, and will only profit from sales of his book. I am a biologist and have had organic and biochem, etc, so I understand and agree that this protocol is excellent. EarthClinic.com has many stories of success about it, it just takes quite a lot of reading to find the gems. I'm going to get the few remaining supplements I don't have and start next week. I will update in a few weeks.

THIS IS A BOOK THAT SHOULD NOT BE OVERLOOKED

I used many of the suggestions in this book and subsequent updates through Earth Clinic website by this author and "Ted" to address many issues related to systematic candida, SIBO, GERD, HPylori, histamine intolerance, hayfever allergies and constipation successfully. Since I was sensitive to many herbs, this book gave me a bridge to move on to other steps successfully. I avoided some of the unorthodox suggestions and supplements so you need to use common sense and caution but the nucleus of the protocol offers faster results and relief than others. If you can afford buying a step by step protocol for candida, I suggest The Whole Journey by Christa Orecchio as she is very thorough. Again, this pathogenic fungi and bacteria are at the heart of many autoimmune conditions and if you don't eradicate the infections successfully, you will relapse. By eradicating, I mean not only addressing the fungi overgrowth in the stomach and intestines but also the cells/blood. This takes time and commitment. Keep in mind that candida does not only relate to yeast infections but a whole spectrum of ailments and symptoms related to fungal overgrowth/mycoplasma. Don't let it get out of hand - this is how serious this condition is. I wish the author would have included more dietary suggestions, optional supplements for intolerances and covered more territory about SIBO, histamine intolerance, avoiding fermented foods which snuff out the oxygen (fermented foods can be added once you heal from candida),autoimmune, etc. but his protocol does help eradicate many of those symptoms and in this regard, covers a lot when followed. Keep in mind that every system reacts differently but I found the alkalizing suggestions to be extremely helpful. I have found that when authors have battled the condition themselves, they often provide a very personal perspective due to the time invested researching to improve their own health.

There is a lot of confusion regarding references to fungi and/or bacterial overgrowth but when you have a dysbosis of the gut you have many issues and pathogenic strains, not limited to parasites/HPylori/bacteria/fungi/yeast/mycoplasma, etc and this is the reason why the most successful recoveries are done in steps and that takes time. For example, the GAPS diet helps increase the good bacteria levels but if you also have an issue with fungi/yeast overgrowth, the fermentation and too much calcium can worsen the candida/yeast issues and tip the scale further. When there is a gut dysbosis, you usually have low levels of good bacteria combined with a fungal overgrowth as well as parasital issues for some. So this is why diet alone cannot resolve the issues but it is a necessary part for recovery.

Best health information out there.

This book should be a must read especially for every woman. So many of us are plagued with bladder infections and this is the cause. When we get rid of the Candida in our system we will all see our health get so-o-o much better. When we rid ourselves of the Candida (which I think of as sugar or yeast in my body) we will get rid of a host of other illnesses that plague us. It will help so many things including but not limited to blood pressure, heart disease, exzema, allergies, etc and so on. This is one cure that will bring us back to health quicker than anything else and get rid of so many illnesses with this change. In order to cure us of what ails us, we are going to have to take our lives in our hands and figure out a natural way and that is where this book comes in. If you are motivated to get healthy once and for all, do this for yourself and your family and read this book. It will answer so many questions you have about why your body reacts to certain things you eat. This book will wake you up on what we are all doing to our bodies by what we take-in. I bought 4 more of these books to give to friends to educate them so they can tell others what they have learned about the yeast in their bodies and how much damage it is causing. It has made me restrict the sugar that I take in and I thought nothing would do that because I have always but always been addicted to sweets and sugar and sugar and sweets. Now, please, read this book and heed what it tells you. I wish I could afford to give this book to anyone who would read it because I certainly would. I truly believe in ridding the Candida from the body and healing ourselves.

Small, simple, spare

Small book, small pages, largish clean font, spare writing style. It occurs to me that the smallness of the book reflects how little time passed between the author's diagnosis of ALS and her death.

On the other hand, Ms. Lindquist, the author who died after writing the book, learned from her son "every second is a life." The author made a goal to live as completely as possible in the present she had left.

Through Ms. Lindquist's eyes, we see how inexorably life goes on around us even when we are, individually, in thrall to our own mortal endings. Reminds me of a documentary where you see a lion at the throat of a still-standing antelope culled from the herd. The kill is in slo-mo, and while you watch the dramatic - and futile - throes of the dying antelope, other members of the herd may continue to graze, saunter or trot a bit further way.

Ms. Lindquist's experience also gives a good glimpse into the Swedish health care system, to wit: It is no less a victim to bureaucracy than the American system. On the other hand, Ms. Lindquist, once she does wade through it, reaps the benefit of pretty wondrous care as she goes through the process of dying.

This is a grim story of one person's dying. ALS is not an easy death.

I'm glad I read it, and do recommend the book.

A Memoir on Living and Dying

Ulla-Carin Lindquist's poignant personal journey with ALS is a well written account containing many end of life issues - end of life as one knows it, end of dreams for the future, the beginning of a different way of framing events of the past, and the slow deterioration of health and abilities once taken for granted. Relationships are explored while emotions are uncovered or discovered. This book is filled with real thoughts from an intelligent woman undergoing tremondous hardship, yet done with beauty and hope.

Ulla-Carin was a popular newscaster on Swedish Television.

Three parts of the book stayed with me (might be a spoiler if you're planning on reading the book - I'm not sure). One, when her now grown daughter describes that all she ever wanted when her mom was a busy career newswoman was to have a full day to spend with her, and she never could (ouch!)but now that Ulla-Carin is sick she has all of the time each day to spend as she wishes within her limitations - another, when her boys play communication games (very touching and some just for FUN!) and a thought her young son introduces into her life, and which she introduces earlier but then she ends the book.

A very moving memoir

This memoir just took me a little over a weekend to read. It may be a small book but it is a very powerful one. I was very moved when I read it. It certainly gave me great insight to what someone with A.L.S. lives with on a daily basis. What a brave woman she was!

Gr 5-8-This follow-up to The Book of Potentially Catastrophic Science (Workman, 2010) offers 24 engaging and thought-provoking math problems. A brief introduction explains the arrangement of the text and includes some tips and hints for tackling them. Each one is framed as a tough or dire situation that readers must solve using their math skills and knowledge. There are three levels of difficulty: "You Might Make It" (grade 5), "Slim to None" (grade 6), and "You're Dead" (grade 7). The grade-level assignments are based on Common Core Standards in mathematics, which the problems are aligned with. Each entry begins by stating its "challenge." A boxed area called "Euclid's Advice" offers some tips and suggestions for solving the challenge, followed by a blank page for students to work out their solutions. Next, the solution is provided. Explanations are clear and easy to understand. In "Sage in the Tower," readers must figure out how to use shadows and proportions to determine how tall a tower is in order to rescue the king's scholar. Lastly, each challenge concludes with a "Math Lab" that offers an example of how the principles being addressed can be put into action. The layout is clean and attractive with wacky three-color cartoons throughout. My students LOVE this book.

I work with math students in 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. Every one of my students Love this book! The littler ones are interested in reading the stories and drawing pictures to organize the information, even if they aren't ready to tackle much of the actual math yet; the older students are happily engaged in trying to figure out the solutions. It's challenging stuff, and depending on your budding mathematician, may require a fair amount of assistance. You'll have a great time, too, though!

A long time coming

Is been 22 years(I think) since David Robbins wrote the last Endworld book #27. So if you have been a fan of this series, this book is a serious welcome back. If you are new to the series, this book will stand alone and you will be introduced to the Endworld universe with a big big bang!

David has written a story here that is action packed and filled with moments that will leave you with your mouth hanging open and the feeling of "OMG did I just read that" . I have read every Endworld and I must say, this is the best one of the lot. Dont get me wrong, the others are wonderful, but this one, is just plain WOW.

Mr Robbins sucks you into the universe with characters you will fall in love with if you are a new reader, old readers will be reconnected with the characters they have already fallen in love with! New sides to characters will be revealed and events that will change the characters (and readers) forever will be revealed.

This book has the punch we have been waiting for. I can only imagine what Mr Robbins has in store for us in future books.

Endworld is back and better than ever!!!!!!

I started reading endworld around the age of 14 or so. I started collecting the books since then. I finally located all the books that are part of the series (endworld,blade), even the wilderness book that had the characters from endworld in it. Then about 10 years ago my girlfriend (ex now)and I broke up. She took my entire collection to hurt me because she was mad that I broke up with her. I did so because she cheated on me. Anyway, I mention this only because the entire series of endworld has been my number #1 favorite, always. It means the world to me to be able to pick up the first book and start re-reading the whole series every year, again and again. Since I lost the whole series I was forced to try and find them again. Only found a few and then 2 years ago I discovered audible and kindle. To be able to listen and read endworld again is amazing!! Ever since doomsday came out (endworld 0), every month I check my kindle and audible for new titles in the endworld series. To my delight I found this book yesterday. I loved it! It is everything endworld was and is. I was afraid it wouldn't be the same considering its been 20 or more years since the last book came out, but it was that and more.
The characters progressed in a way that's natural for a series like this. I love the fact that its building off of a story from endworld # 12( I think it was that one, I don't have the series to Check :-( sigh...) and blade #13 (again unsure). I remember the stories and was left wondering what might have been written if the series had continued. Now hopefully, if he continues writing for the series, I will find out!
The loss of certain characters, while sad, seems to be the start of something big, and therefore, wonderful. I hope and pray this is not the last endworld. I will be checking every month again for new books!!! Thank you David Robbins for bringing the much loved series back and giving us a taste of hopefully things to come. I am very excited to see what comes next! Bring on the next book!!!!! Please keep writing more books to add to the series!!!!

Welcome back, Endworld!

Endworld is the greatest series ever written, hands down! Dark Days is the highly anticipated, and very long awaited twenty-eighth entry in the series. Long time fans like myself have waited twenty-two years for this book. And, I couldn't be more satisfied with it!

Dark Days is a thrill ride! It has all the action, suspence and humor that you'd expect from Endworld, but with a darker, grittier feeling to it.

Dark Days may be the most emotionally powerful story in the whole Endworld series. Reading it was like having a reunion with old friends. And sadly , having to bid farewell to some of them.

This is the best book I've read in years! If you're an old fan of Endworld, you deserve to treat yourself to this book. If you've never read an Endworld book, you're missing out on something very special. Give this book a try. I know you'll fall in love with this series just like I and so many others have.

Now, I'm off to read it again. Yes, it's that good!

Put it on your Christmas wish list! When I pre-ordered A Passion for Needlework from Book Depository, I really had no idea what to expect from the book, beyond one thing: I knew it would be beautiful. Why? Because it's coming from Inspirations. They publish the world's most beautiful embroidery magazine. Their books have always been equally beautiful. Meandering around one day through lists of upcoming needlework books, I came across this one. I thought, That will be a pretty book. And my readers will want to know about it. And so I'll order it. That's as far as my thinking process went. I pretty much forgot about the book until it arrived week before last. When I opened the package, I just wasn't prepared! I don't know if I've ever been flabbergasted by an embroidery book. But I think this one did it. It's just that pretty. See, the book is huge - and I don't mean size-wise. While it's a nicely sized book (9.5" x 11", about 1/2" thick, nice cover, good quality paper, amazing color, and a satin ribbon bookmark to boot), the huge impact comes from the photos of the needlework within. This is a book that gets close and personal with all the embroidery! The whole book revolves around the photography of the twelve projects that unfold inside its cover. For every project, you'll find close-up photos that show astonishing stitching detail. This is eye candy at it's best! The projects in A Passion for Needlework range from colorful silk embroidery, to whitework embroidery, elegant monogramming, stumpwork, textured embroidery, scenic embroidery. It is quite an array! For the floral enthusiast, the book is a goldmine. You'll find Jane Nicholas's stumpwork floral creations, Susan O'Connor's contemporary interpretations of 17th century floral stitchery... ...and floral accents on delicate linen surrounding decorative initials. But there's much more than flowers here! Jenny McWhinney's "Falling Leaves" projects - which include a tree bedecked in autumn splendor and an owl surrounded by fall foliage - is especially captivating this time of year! Other projects include a whitework and drawn thread piece, stumpwork berries and leaves, a highly textured beach scene, and a proud peacock in stumpwork and other techniques, from designers Deborah Love, Lorna Bateman, Judy Wilford, Alison Cole. You'll find Trish Burr doing what she does best, with one of her exquisite needle painted birds; a sweet stumpwork posy by Julie Kniedl; a woodland scene by Jo Butcher featuring birch bark so real you could almost peel it. Twelve projects in all - and every one of them, gorgeous! The book begins with a photographic overview of all the projects, with a little blurb about each one. Then, it's broken down into the individual projects. Each project begins with a detailed list of stitches used and materials required. The instructions for the project follow next, with enough detail to follow along and succeed in reproducing it. The book is not super-heavy on instruction, though, making it more suitable, I think, for someone who is already a fairly competent stitcher - although the projects range in difficulty, so it really depends on your personal level and your motivation to work the project! Some of the instructions rely more on text than on visual aids. When reading through each project from start to finish, though, the written instructions are clear. In most cases, the designer takes you step by step through each detail. Some projects include step-by-step photos for the various techniques employed... ...while others rely on small diagrams here and there to clarify the text. In the back of the book, there's a brief stitch glossary with diagrams for all the basic stitches employed in the various projects. A MUST for dog owners

I thought I had the best dog in the world until we got another little puppy. Then, my dog became very territorial with his toys. Wanting the two dogs to love each other forever, I got this book because it was recommended by the local German Shepherd rescue.
Most of the things in the book I had already done with my first dog, but the writers explained why my dog was acting this way with his toys and how to correct it.
My two dogs share toys now and don't fight (other that puppy play).
Sometimes it is hard to 'think like a dog', but you have to in order to communicate with yours. These writers must be part-dog, and the book is very effective.

The answer to an obedience trainer/behaviorist's prayer

This book is the most succinct, well-written treatise in print on what is takes to own a dog. A previous review of this book criticized it because it discusses the dog's ancestry to the wolf and ignored the years of domestication of dogs. The wolf ancestry of domestic dogs cannot be ignored when owning a dog. Alot of people are not meant to be dog owners or should only own certain breeds. This book delivers critical information on behaviorism. We teach dog training using Karen Pryor's technique's of positive reinforcement, but this alone is not enough to be a successful dog owner. Owning a dog is a lot of work and owning a rottweiler is not the same as owning a golden retriever. People must understand the canine psyche and be equipped with the knowledge of how to demonstrate pack leadership over a dog, along with training, in order to have a 'good dog'. Pack leadership is needed along with the principles of positive reinforcement to elicit good canine behavior. One is not a replacement for the other. This book is required reading for the beginner dog class. It equips the students with the knowledge of canine behaviorism they need. Every dog owner should have this book. Every potential dog owner should read this book and use it to decide if they are meant to be a dog owner. It is an excellent book.

Practical solutions to canine dominance problems here!

This is the best text for owners who are having difficulty attaining leadership status with their dogs. The lessons are written in plain English while drawing on sound, non-confrontational behavioral theory.
The authors take the angle of basing each lesson on what is known about the functioning of a wolf pack. The position of dominant vs. lower-ranking wolves is explored. Who eats first? Who sleeps where? Who initiates play? Who goes through narrow passageways first?
Especially interesting to me was the explanation of how meaningful body posture and physical positioning is to dogs.
I especially recommend this book to dog trainers working with the general public or to any dog owner whose dog who perhaps has JUST BEGUN to exhibit dominant behaviors such as pulling on the leash, ignoring known commands, guarding of food or objects, or giving warning growls when disciplined.
I would not recommend this book to owners trying to correct biting problems with a dog who already has a history of fear or dominance aggression. If that is your problem, you need to ask your vet for a referral to an animal behaviorist.

Gary Cunningham has just written an updated book on United States bayonets. His book, entitled U.S. Knife Bayonets & Scabbards: A Collectors Guide. 2015, is published by Scott Duff Publications. Crammed full of incredible black & white photos, it is an update of his 1997 book. It is a guide to help identify original bayonets, not a price guide. The book is a great reference for the novice having a bayonet passed down or the casual collector that wants to purchase a correct, non-replica bayonet for his or her U.S. military rifle. It is arranged chronologically and reviews most blade bayonets one would encounter at a gun show, in an attic, or at a auction. Its primary focus is on U.S. bayonets dating from the Krag rifle in the 1890s up to the current issue military blade bayonets.

Cunningham’s 1997 edition has many line drawings. In contrast, this new 2015 edition has hundreds of macro-detail, descriptive photos. There are images of the bayonets and their scabbards. In addition, there are many more photos of close up views showing the blade, handle, hilt, scabbard construction as well as macro detailed views offering a clear visual of the stamped marker’s marks and a wide variety of other manufacturers’ attributes. The guide’s strong point is how closely each bayonet is scrutinized through a series of photographic records. The photography is excellent and its visuals are an important contribution to the text. In an effort to ID a bayonet, the author provides for the lay reader a text specific to each bayonet, photos in an effort to glean more information about the descriptive details, and provides bayonet measurement specifications within a box format. The author reviews the general major bayonet variations and their modifications made to each specific bayonet over its use. As stated, he does not cover the Civil War or earlier U.S. bayonets. In addition, some very rare, seldom found, post-1890 bayonets are omitted.

Cunningham’s goal is to provide a concise guide offering the intermediate or novice collector a photographic balance between too little detail for a collector and too much written detail for the novice so they can identify just what bayonet they actually see. They can use this guide to help determine the correct type for their rifle, as well as the authenticity of a bayonet and avoid the many reproductions on the market. The general military reader and collector alike will find this resource a welcome addition to their library. It has an excellent bibliography, the quality of the paper is top grade, photography is fantastic and details are clearly visible, and Cunningham’s text is well written. The only thing I would have preferred to have seen is a chapter on reproduction/replica U.S. bayonets. If you own a surplus military rifle, then you need a bayonet to complete your display.

A highly anticipated refresh is delivered!

I received my copy yesterday and the additional bayonet, scabbard, and contractual data added since the last publication make this book worth the purchase price if you are new to the hobby, a seasoned salt, or someone just trying to validate what you have. The book is clearly laid out with a complete table of contents and bibliography making it easy to find the information you are looking for. The pictures, both black/white and colored are clear and vivid. While the author mentions and warns the reader of some of the characteristics of common reproductions and fakes, I wish he would have included pictures of some of those in the book. I also wish he could have used more color photography but then I imagine his book would not have been affordable to the majority of the people who enjoy this hobby. If you are looking for a one stop shop for the bayonets used in the period covered, this is it. I have been collecting military items for several years and I find this book to be a great addition to my reference library and highly recommend it.
